ENG: As part of my project, I will be organizing several workshops in 2025 that focus on various aspects of natural resource use and sustainability in musical instrument making. At the end of January, I hosted the first workshop of this series with Silke Lichtenberg. In her workshop, titled “Cultural-Ecological Systems: Linking Musical Instrument Making, Craftsmanship, Natural Resources, and Ecosystems in a Holistic Approach,” she introduced to me her theoretical concept of a “telecoupled cultural-ecological system.” We explored how this framework could be applied to the Musical Bamboos of the Bolivian Andes and discussed its advantages and disadvantages. I was particularly impressed by how her theoretical approach help her to articulate a nuanced historical perspective on the interconnectedness of the socio-political and economic contexts, the natural environment, violin and bow making, and the evolution of classical music. I will definitely keep this in mind when I begin editing my book manuscript!
ESP: Como parte de mi proyecto, estaré organizando varios talleres en 2025 que tematizan diversos aspectos del uso de recursos naturales y la sostenibilidad en la construcción de instrumentos musicales. A finales de enero, llevamos a cabo el primer taller de esta serie con Silke Lichtenberg. En su taller, titulado “Sistemas Cultural-Ecológicos: Vinculando la Fabricación de Instrumentos Musicales, la Artesanía, los Recursos Naturales y los Ecosistemas en un Enfoque Holístico,” ella me presentó su concepto teórico de un “sistema cultural-ecológico teleacoplado”. Exploramos cómo este marco teórico podría aplicarse al caso de Los Bambúes Musicales de los Andes Bolivianos y discutimos sus ventajas y desventajas. Me impresionó especialmente cómo su enfoque teórico le llevó a articular una perspectiva histórica matizada sobre la interconexión entre los contextos sociopolíticos y económicos, el entorno natural, la fabricación de violines y arcos, y la evolución de la música clásica. ¡Definitivamente tendré esto en cuenta cuando empiece a editar el manuscrito de mi libro!
